More sustainable, by design.

It’s not just talk – it’s part and parcel of each building we develop.

Here’s how we, together with our residents, build sustainable communities.

Solar Power

Our partner company, Renew 22, generates enough energy to power 3,000+ homes. Additionally, our Borealis property is outfitted with a rooftop solar array which provides enough electricity to offset 15% of total building usage. Track our energy output on our Borealis array here.

Energy Efficiency

From windows to rooftops, our buildings are designed to use less energy – about 33% less than our competitors. This high quality construction also allows for greater comfort: you’ll stay warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.

Water Conservation

From dual flush toilets to rain barrel irrigation, we make it easy to use less water everyday. Harvesting rainwater also makes for a lush, green rooftop landscape!

Organics Composting

Solhem pioneered multifamily organic recycling in Minnesota. That’s right – we composted before it was cool! Composting keeps food and other biodegradable products out of landfills, reducing harmful emissions.

Greener Transport

We build for walkability, bikeability, and electric car chargeability so with every step, you can reduce your footprint and enhance your health. Our properties are located in neighborhoods with bike scores ranging from 81 (very bikeable) to 94 (biker’s paradise).
